Some paintings begin in the studio. This one began on a quiet drive through the Mississippi Delta.

After several days of struggling to paint, I set my brushes aside and went looking for inspiration instead. Across an open field, I watched a summer rain falling in the distance while the road beneath me remained dry. It was one of those familiar Delta moments—a reminder that weather doesn’t arrive all at once. Sometimes you can see the rain long before it reaches you.

With a sweeping storm sky, distant rain shafts, and fields stretching toward the horizon, Waiting on Rain captures that feeling of anticipation. It is a painting about patience, hope, and the quiet beauty found in simply paying attention to the landscape.

Sometimes all it takes to find your way back is a drive down a back road.
